What Is N-bomb?
N-BOMe, commonly known as N-bomb or Smiles, is a powerful synthetic hallucinogen sold as an alternative to LSD or mescaline (a hallucinogenic drug derived from a cactus plant). There are several variations of this drug, but 25I-NBOMe, often called 25I, is the most potent and commonly abused form. The effects of a tiny amount of the drug can last for up to 12 hours or longer.
N-bomb produces a hallucinogenic effect similar to LSD at very small dosages. It also mimics the effects of methamphetamine. Users report that negative effects and aftereffects of N-bomb are worse than those of LSD.
A dose of 750 micrograms, considered average to high, is about the size of six small grains of table salt.
N-bomb is sold in liquid or powdered form or on blotter paper that has been soaked in it. It has a strong, bitter metallic taste, and some dealers add mint or fruit flavoring to the liquid and blotter paper varieties.
Since N-bomb has no effect if swallowed, users place it under the tongue for absorption. Some users inject it, smoke the powdered form, inhale it through the nose, vaporize it or insert it rectally. All of these methods are dangerous because even a few grains can cause an effect, making it extremely easy to overdose—sometimes with fatal consequences.
Too Toxic to Handle
N-bomb is so toxic that handling it requires a filter mask, gloves and protective glasses. This poses a risk for law enforcement officers, who could experience a fatal overdose if they do not wear protective gear when collecting drug evidence from a suspect.
Because N-bomb is sometimes sold under the names of other drugs, users might take the typical dose of the drug they think they are using, which can lead to a fatal overdose.
